The Winds of the Mountain Empire, a wind ensemble in residence at Mountain Empire Community College will present its third annual performance at the Goodloe Center in Phillips- Taylor hall on the campus of Mountain Empire Community College on Sunday, July 13 at 4:00 p.m.
This year's concert will feature trumpet soloist Tim Wendt, professional trumpeter from New York performing the theme from Beauty and The Beast and Czardas, a virtuosic composition based on a Hungarian folk dance. Tim has performed on national and international tours with artists such as Brian Setzer, John Tesh, Michael Crawford and the Dallas Brass. A versatile trumpeter, his credits also include over ten years as principal and solo trumpet with the Crystal Cathedral's internationally broadcast "Hour of Power"? Orchestra, Elvis Schoenberg's "Orchestra
Surreal."? He currently performs with a number of Broadway productions such as Hairspray, Spamalot, and The Phantom of the Opera.
The program also includes the premier performance of Origins, the latest composition for wind ensemble by David Volk, assistant professor of music at The University of Virginia's College at Wise.
Additionally, the program features prominent wind compositions by Norman Dello Joio, Eric Ewazen, Dmitri Shostakovich, and Jack Stamp. Admission is free.
